Marbury VS Madison - In this Court case, Madison fired a man named Marbury. Marbury ran to the Supreme Court and demanded a trial. This is where Judicial Review comes into play. The Supreme Court thought that Madison firing Marbury was unconstitutional ( even though Madison wrote the Constitution) and they said he must have his job back. Ever since then the Judicial Review has been in play.
McCulloch VS Maryland - the court expanded Congress’s powers to include those implied by the constitution; constitutional sovereignty; federal government is superior to state government
Miranda VS Arizona - This case is about how a criminal who didn't have his rights read to him, so he was able to get scotch free, because if you tell an officer a crime you committed before they read your rights, they can't use it in the court of law. That's why we have Miranda rights now.
Plessy VS Ferguson - In this case, Plessy and Ferguson argued about equality. The Court came to a conclusion that Separate is Equal.
Brown VS the Topeka Board of Education - In this case, Brown argued that her daughter had to walk 10 miles to a black school when there was a white school 4 miles away. The court came to a conclusion that Separate is NOT Equal and that the desegregation of schools must happen.
