The 27 Constitutional Amendments
Amendment 1: Freedom of Speech
People can say, do, and express whatever they like to. The Government can't make them change their views, their religion, or the way they live.
Amendment 2: Right to Bear Arms
The Government can't take away ordinary weapons from the people. (Obama is trying to do a gun law but can't because of this amendment)
Amendement 3: Quartering Troops
The Government can't force people to house their soldiers.
Amendment 4: No unreasonable searches
The Government or law enforcement can't search you without a legit reason. If you look suspicious, the Government can't just search you for that reason.
Amendment 5: No Double Jeopardy
The Government can't arrest you for the same thing twice if you are found guilty the first time. Also, this Amendment gives you the right to own your own property and the Government can't take it away.
Amendment 6: Right to a Speedy Trial
The Government can't sentence your trial for a long time. If you have committed a crime that was 2 weeks ago and you haven't been tried, you have a right to be tried as soon as you are arrested. Also, the Government can't give you an impartial jury.
Amendment 7: Jury Trial in Civil Cases
The Government must provide a jury in every civil case.
Amendment 8: No Cruel and Unusual Punishment
The Government can't give you a punishment that doesn't make sense to why you are being tried for. (If you are caught jay walking, the Judge can't tar and feather you because of that)
Amendment 9: Unenumerated Rights
All rights that are not listed in the Constitution Still come into play, unless it is illegal. (killing someone is not part of this right) It's just your basic rights as a human.
Amendment 10: Rights the the People and to the Sates
The rights that the constitution doesn't give you the states can give it to you or not.
Amendment 11: Prevents Suits Against States
Federal courts can't sue states without the state's consent
Amendment 12: Election of the President
Required for the electors to elect the President and Vice President
Amendment 13: Abolish Slavery
Slavery no longer exists, thanks to President Lincoln and the Civil War
Amendment 14: Citizenship in the United States
People who are born in the United States are automatically citizens of the country. Also, states can't take away the people's rights.
Amendment 15: Vote Regardless of Race
No matter what race you are (black, white, Indian, or asian) You have a right to vote
Amendment 16: Income Tax
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
Amendment 17: People Elect Senators Instead of States
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.
Amendment 18: Prohibition
Alcohol is prohibited to be transported, sold, and produced
Amendment 19: Women's Suffrage
Women have the right to vote just as men do. Established in 1920
Amendment 20: Election and Inauguration Times Closer
The terms of the President and Vice President end at noon of the 20th of January and the Congress end at noon of the 3rd of January
Amendment 21: Repealed Prohibition
The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed. Alcohol is now be able to be distributed.
Amendment 22: 2 Term Limit
No person may be elected in the office for more than 2 terms and no one who has been in the presidents place can serve for more than 2 years
Amendment 23: District of Columbia Can Vote
The District of Columbia are now authorized to vote for the President of the United States
Amendment 24: Poll Taxes
The Rights of citizens in the U.S. to vote or anyone in the White House or Congress, shall not be denied by the U.S. for not paying poll taxes or any other
Amendment 25: Presidential Secession
If the President dies or resigns, the Vice President then takes over for the rest of his term.
Amendment 26: Vote at 18
The right to vote as a citizen is that you must be at least 18 years old
Amendment 27: Laws and Election
No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.
